Why transfer your treasured video to a DVD?  Because the adhesive tape with a bunch of metal bits on what you call videotape will degrade and lose your footage forever.

Video tape will eventually decay.  It really is adhesive tape with a bunch of metal particles on it.  When the metal particles fall off the tape, it creates a drop out, an annoying video artifact that appears as blocks in the picture.

Really scared?  Don’t be.  You have a few options, like copying to a new tape or to a DVD.

Are DVD’s eternal?  No.  Low cost DVDs will fall apart after a few years as something called DVD rot sets in.  But taken care of, quality DVD’s should last longer than videotape- VHS, 8MM, Hi-8, Digital 8 or mini-DV.

We use high quality, brand name DVD blanks in our production like those from Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Properly stored and treated gently, they should last a long time.

After you transfer it, you can now easily play it for friends (no more camcorders and wires), give away copies (10 included with every package) and store it along with your DVD collection.

No more scanning through hand written labels on tapes that seem to get smaller every time you take them out. Or worst yet, losing a mini-DV tape under the couch or behind the TV.
